First the truth… DIETS DON’T WORK!!!
Now that doesn’t mean that you can’t lose weight on any one of a dozen popular diets that are out there, but the truth is that the average success rate for all of those diets – I’d name a few but can’t afford the lawyers - is less than 10 percent in terms of maintaining the weight loss over a two to three year period.
I could go out and create the banana and cheeseburger diet and get you to lose weight and sell you enough expensive supplements that you probably wouldn’t actually die on this diet but would that be a healthy and maintainable eating program? Of course not!

If you are on any type of supervised diet plan that does not use body composition testing as the main way of monitoring the effectiveness of the diet you are on a diet that is questionable at best and dangerous at the worst. When you diet and lose more than about 1lb a week you go into a catabolic state which basically means that much of the weight you are losing is muscle and water and not just fat. For every pound of muscle you lose your metabolism will drop by about 50 calories per day. This is why people who go through rapid weight loss often find it so difficult to maintain the weight loss. You are lighter but you have lost some very important weight that you should not have lost in the first place.
